MY STORY

EDUCATOR  | AUTHOR  | SPEAKER  |  COACH  |  SURVIVOR

You'll see me in that pink hat often! It was given to me upon my breast cancer diagnosis in 2018 and I wore it through thick and thin (and bald!)

I have been an educator and coach for over 17 years (the first 15 were at the independent boarding school, Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts). I have been a wife for 14 years and parent for 13 :) I have been an athlete all my life (no need to put the number of years!) and a survivor for 4 years.

Sport has long time been a passion. I was a tri-varsity athlete for all four years of high school and then went on to play D1 basketball at the University of Vermont. In 2005 I was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District I First Team. And in 2013, I was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of contributions as both a coach and player.

Soon into my career as a teacher and coach I took a deep dive into sport and performance psychology in an effort to learn how to get the most out of my teams and athletes (and students). The more I got into it, the more I wished I had these resources and tools as an athlete. I had a good career, but I couldn’t help but think how much better it would have been knowing what I know now about the mental side of the game. I spent time in Australia and New Zealand learning from schools that do Positive Education, a philosophy that helps fuel human flourishing. Soon after my return in 2018 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. My experience in sport and my practices developed through mindfulness, sport, and positive psychology were critical to my overcoming this challenge. It has became my mission to create content and resources for students, athletes, coaches, teams and anyone who wants to get the most out of themselves through combining high performance and well-being.

I am Founding Director of SG United Foundation (“SG” for Strong Girls), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower and inspire girls to become their best, happiest, strongest version of themselves through sports, mindfulness, and leadership programming.

I am also Founder of Mindful Performance, LLC, where I consult with high school and college sports teams and coaches as well as individual athletes through various programs. This includes working with Boston Childrens Hospital’s Cardiac Fitness Program to integrate mental skills development into their training. I specialize in the intersection of sport psychology and positive psychology to teach and coach well-being and thriving along with high performance (showing they are not mutually exclusive).

I love TEAMS! I would love for you to join mine. I look forward to connecting with you. :)
